I am Xiaofan Daodao, a programmer who has been engaged in Internet development for more than 10 years. In 2023, I was forced to start my own business. Compared to the profession of code farmer, I am considered a veteran, and for entrepreneurs, I am a beginner.
Since I focused on the e-commerce field, I have sold a total of 10+e-commerce systems, mostly in the form of basic fees and customization, which greatly reduces development pressure. However, it also brings new questions: how long should after-sales maintenance last?
There is nothing wrong with taking money to do things, but small businesses worth thousands or tens of thousands cannot be maintained for free for a year or so. Any service has a time limit.
Small business transactions:
What you see is what you get when shopping in supermarkets;
New appliances come with a one-year warranty;
Bulk trading:
New car warranty for 8 years/150000 kilometers;
Used car after-sales service for 3 months.
This is my first online shopping customer, and also the first customer who has not been fully delivered. The customer was introduced by a colleague and started by doing offline business. They want to improve their performance and expand their scale through online channels. I am not very familiar with e-commerce and need a friend who can provide skills and partial consultation to assist.
After understanding the customer's needs, I quickly found a matching e-commerce system. However, I didn't expect that starting from scratch would be very time-consuming, and the customer was also quite busy, causing the project to be forced to be interrupted. It has been 8 months since we started talking, and I have given up on this project. I didn't expect the customer to restart this mall again.
If it's you, should you continue the service or terminate it?
In the past two years, I have seen many senior coders grow into industry leaders through hard work and opportunities. I am envious and self blaming. Why can others succeed but not me? This issue is reflected upon year after year and reviewed month after month, just like an e-commerce giant reflecting on its failures year after year.
As a junior entrepreneur, I know that you can definitely cross the river by feeling the stones, but as for how to do it, it can only be: cats have cat paths, mice have mouse paths; The Eight Immortals display their divine powers when crossing the sea.
I recently came across a sentence that left a deep impression on me: 'To be your own agent, learn to sell yourself first.'. Since leaving the workplace to start my own business, I have always wanted to achieve a transition from a code farmer to a brand IP by creating an IP. So far, I can only say that I have some insights:
Reliability is the core foundation of entrepreneurial success
Success belongs to the diligent you, me, and him.
The small boat turns around in a timely manner
